Ajwain in English also known as Carom Seeds is a plant that produces small, seed-like fruits similar to caraway and cumin. These seeds are also known as bishop's, an uncommon spice found in some regions of Asia. They're slightly green to brown in colour. They look similar to cumin seeds, but their flavor and aroma are closer to thyme. Ajwain seeds are commonly used in spice blends after being dry-roasted or ground.
Dasht Ajwain Powder is processed from the finest quality Ajwain Seeds. The taste of Ajwain is similar to that of thyme after chewing. Since ancient times, Ajwain powder has been used in cooking and medicinal purposes and is part of Middle Eastern, Indian and African cooking. Also, it adds authentic flavors, aromas, and textures to your food items. This powder also possesses antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and may effectively treat peptic ulcers, reducing blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Ajwain powder has a spicy, bitter taste similar to thyme.
In Pakistani cuisine, Ajwain is often part of the tadka in a dish. Tadka, or tempering, is a cooking method in which oil or butter (most often ghee) is heated until very hot, and whole spices are added and fried, creating a chaunk. Ajwain powder is incorporated into lentil dishes or added as a final touch or garnish to a dish. Pickles, chicken, and fish, as well as other spices, are seasoned with ajwain powder. Snacks, biscuits, sauces, and soups are all flavored with it. It is also used to refresh the mouth.
Raw or cooked Ajwain can be served at the end of a meal contains lots of fat or starch; its sharpness is a great contrast to the richness of the ingredients. Ajwain is also used in bread & biscuit dough and then sprinkled over the top when baked.
