Sandenol / سینڈینول

Sandenol is a synthetic sandalwood fragrance material developed to replicate the warm, creamy, and balsamic character of natural East Indian sandalwood (Santalum album). As natural sandalwood became increasingly scarce and expensive due to overharvesting, the fragrance industry turned to high-quality synthetics like Sandenol to fill the demand. It belongs to the bicyclic sesquiterpene alcohol family and has been a reliable workhorse in perfumery for decades.

What makes Sandenol particularly valued is its smooth blending behaviour. Unlike some harsher sandalwood synthetics, Sandenol carries a milky softness that sits comfortably alongside floral, musky, and oriental materials without dominating. It diffuses quietly but persistently, making it an ideal fixative and base-rounding ingredient. Its performance in leave-on and wash-off products is notably stable, resisting discoloration and maintaining odour integrity across a range of formulations.

Usage & Guidelines

Fine Fragrance 

Sandenol is a staple base and mid-base ingredient in fine fragrance work. It provides the sandalwood depth that most oriental, woody, and amber constructions rely on. Use it as a fixative to extend lighter top notes and soften sharp musks.

Attar and Oriental Blending

In attar and traditional oriental perfumery, Sandenol is indispensable. It rounds out oud blends, softens heavy resins like labdanum and benzoin, and gives attars a smooth, polished sandalwood base without requiring expensive natural sandalwood oil.

Functional Fragrance

Sandenol performs well in body wash, shampoo, lotion, and deodorant fragrances. It holds well through rinse-off processes and adds a skin-friendly woody warmth that reads clean and sophisticated in functional products.

Cosmetics 

In creams, lotions, and leave-on products, Sandenol contributes long-lasting woody creaminess. It is stable in emulsions and does not cause significant discoloration at recommended usage levels.

Home Fragrance

Sandenol performs reliably in reed diffusers, wax melts, and room sprays. In candles, performance may vary depending on wax type — always conduct a burn test before finalising candle formulations.
