Ethylene Brassylate is a macrocyclic musk compound first synthesized in the mid-20th century by condensing ethylene glycol with brassylic acid, a 13-carbon dicarboxylic acid derived from erucic acid found in cruciferous plant oils. The macrocyclic musk class gained prominence in perfumery from the 1970s onward as the fragrance industry sought cleaner, safer alternatives to nitromusks, which faced regulatory pressure due to environmental persistence and toxicity concerns.
