Ambroxan is a synthetic polycyclic musk-amber compound first developed as a laboratory alternative to ambergris, the rare secretion of the sperm whale that was historically prized in fine perfumery. Natural ambergris contains ambrein, which oxidizes over time to produce Ambroxide, the compound that Ambroxan synthetically replicates. The commercial development of Ambroxan allowed perfumers to access this remarkable olfactory profile without relying on a protected and scarce natural source.

Attar and Oriental Blending
