Split Chickpeas / دال چنا / Daal Chana – ChiltanPure

ChiltanPure Split Chickpeas (Daal Chana) are 100% natural, protein-rich, and full of essential nutrients that make them an excellent part of a healthy and balanced diet. Known as Daal Chana in Pakistan, these split chickpeas are a delicious source of plant-based protein, fiber, and vitamins, helping you stay energetic throughout the day.

Our premium-quality Daal Chana is carefully cleaned, naturally processed, and hygienically packed to preserve freshness and flavor. Whether you’re cooking daal fry, soups, or traditional Pakistani curries, this nutrient-packed lentil adds taste and health to every meal.

Appearance

The chickpeas have a bright golden-yellow color that looks clean and fresh. Each piece is split in half, which is exactly what you need for quick cooking. You won't find any stones, dirt, or damaged pieces in the pack. The chickpeas are uniform in size, so they cook at the same rate.

Texture

These split chickpeas have a firm texture when raw. After cooking, they become soft and creamy without turning into mush. They hold their shape well in curries and dals. The texture is smooth on the outside and tender throughout when properly cooked.

Flavor

The taste is mild, nutty, and slightly earthy. These chickpeas have a natural sweetness that comes out when you cook them. They absorb spices and seasonings really well, which makes them perfect for different recipes. The flavor is clean without any bitter aftertaste.

Aroma

When you cook these chickpeas, your kitchen fills with a warm, comforting smell. The aroma is mild and pleasant, not overpowering. Once they're cooked with spices, the smell becomes rich and inviting.

Versatility

You can use these split chickpeas in so many ways. Make classic dal tadka for dinner, prepare chana dal halwa for dessert, or grind them into flour for pakoras and bread. They work in soups, salads, and rice dishes too. You can roast them for a crunchy snack or cook them soft for curry.

Precaution

Store the chickpeas in an airtight container after opening the pack. Keep them in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight. Check for any insects before storing if you live in a humid area. Wash the chickpeas thoroughly before cooking. If you have any allergies to legumes, avoid eating them.

FAQs

Q: Do I need to soak split chickpeas before cooking?

A: Soaking is recommended but not mandatory. Soaking for 30 minutes to 1 hour makes them cook faster and easier to digest. If you're short on time, you can cook them directly, but they'll take longer.

Q: How long can I store these chickpeas?

A: When stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, they stay fresh for 6-12 months. Always check for any signs of moisture or insects before use.

Q: Can I eat these chickpeas raw?

A: No, split chickpeas must be cooked before eating. Raw legumes are hard to digest and can cause stomach problems.

Q: Are these chickpeas organic?

A: Please check the product packaging for organic certification details. The chickpeas are cleaned and processed to maintain quality standards.

High in Protein
Each serving gives you a good amount of protein that your body needs. This helps build and repair muscles. Great for people who don't eat meat or want more plant-based protein in their diet.
Rich in Fiber
The fiber content keeps your digestive system working smoothly. It helps you feel full for longer, which is useful if you're watching your weight. Regular consumption can help with bowel movements and gut health.
Supports Heart Health
Split chickpeas contain nutrients that are good for your heart. They help maintain healthy cholesterol levels when eaten as part of a balanced diet. The potassium present in them supports normal blood pressure.
Provides Energy
These chickpeas give you steady energy throughout the day. They don't cause sudden spikes in blood sugar levels. This makes them a smart choice for breakfast or lunch.
Contains Essential Vitamins
You get B vitamins like folate and B6 from these chickpeas. These vitamins help your body make new cells and keep your nervous system healthy. They're especially important for growing children and pregnant women.
Basic Cooking Method
Rinse the split chickpeas under running water 2-3 times. Soak them in clean water for 30 minutes to 1 hour. This makes them cook faster. Drain the water and add fresh water to a pot. Use 3 cups of water for every 1 cup of chickpeas. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and let them simmer for 30-40 minutes until soft.
For Pressure Cooking
Wash and soak the chickpeas as mentioned above. Put them in a pressure cooker with enough water to cover them completely. Add a pinch of salt. Close the lid and cook for 3-4 whistles on medium heat. Let the pressure release naturally before opening.
For Dal Preparation
Cook the chickpeas until soft. In a separate pan, heat oil or ghee. Add cumin seeds, garlic, onions, and your choice of spices. Pour this tempering over the cooked dal. Mix well and simmer for 5 more minutes.
For Roasted Snacks
Soak the chickpeas for 2 hours. Drain completely and pat them dry with a clean cloth. Toss with a little oil and your favorite spices. Spread on a baking tray and roast at 180°C for 25-30 minutes until crispy. Stir every 10 minutes for even roasting.
For Grinding into Flour
Roast dry chickpeas in a pan on low heat for 5-7 minutes. Let them cool completely. Grind in a mixer or flour mill until you get a fine powder. Sieve if needed. Use this flour for making batter or dough.
